May I See Your National ID, Please?
I spoke to an older member of my family over the weekend about this travesty, and was surprised by her response. She said that she didn't have anything to hide, so she saw no reason to object to letting the government put anything they wanted into her driver's license. When I reminded her that Germans thought the same thing in the early 30's, she paused, then said, "Gee, I never thought of it that way."
I'm 50, and it's times like this, when I'm caught between the ignorance of older citizens and the apathy of younger ones that I want to throw up my hands and say why bother. Then my Lord gently reminds me that He hasn't given me permission to quit, because I'm still breathing, and my heart is still beating (even if it does have a few stents holding it open!).
I'm glad my Abba loves me so much, and I can run to Him any time for reassurance. One of my favorite songs by Twila Paris says it best:
"They don't know that I go running home when I fall down.
They don't know Who picks me up when no one is around.
I drop my sword and cry for just a while.
'Cause deep inside this armour the warrior is a child."
