Sainte Genevieve MO Historic Sites
In August of 1993, as a member of Civil Air Patrol, Arkansas Wing, Arkansas River Valley Composite Squadron, I took 11 cadets to southern Missouri for 3 weeks to sandbag flooding towns, among them Ste. Genevieve and Dutchtown. My husband and I took a trip back this past weekend to the area to see what the area looked like when it wasn't flooded, and just to remember. What a joy it is to find St. Gen thriving! Anyone who is within a day's drive of St. Louis needs to find time to see this incredible place! And don't stay at a regular hotel - make a reservation at one of the bed and breakfasts in town. We wandered through town late Friday night (after 10pm) and the place was peaceful and serene. Saturday we spent the day doing the "tourist" thing, all over town, and being a holiday weekend, it seems that everyone had gone elsewhere, so we had the place virtually to ourselves. Residents have every right to be proud of their town and their heritage; they have done an admirable job of preserving their history intact.
